Inspiration and Encouragement

Diary entries and Reflections from Janet:

The entries below mark my introduction to the power of the mind and to the concept that if I control my thoughts, I control my destiny. In effect, it was the day the world opened up to me. I became empowered to know that I was not destined to be a victim of circumstances. I could set goals and move in the direction of my dreams by watching my thoughts and begin to practice a sort of discipline around stopping unhealthy thoughts and encouraging healthy ones. I could have a bird’s eye view of my own thoughts. I would later come to know this as being mindful. Of course, I was a diamond in the rough in the implementation of this practice, but on September 28th of my 17th year of life, the seed was planted! I happened to hear it at church from a pastor named Herb, who was visiting North Dakota from New York, but keep in mind that this message can come from anywhere, anytime, anyplace.

    September 28

We had a special guest speaker at church. Best talk I have ever heard. I just started crying. He will be here for three days. Went back tonight to hear him again. He talked about loneliness, and how people just sit and cry because they are lonely and tension builds up and they get chronic headaches and things like that. Sure sounds like me. He said, “what you need is solitude.” He said you have to find yourself. I don’t really understand what I’m supposed to do, but I will go hear him again, and pray that God will help get that dang John out of my mind. Bad headache today.

I went to church to hear that guy talk. He gave a really good talk on your subconscious mind and how you can really control almost anything. If I keep saying everyday “I don’t like John,” then pretty soon I won’t think of him anymore. The talk really cheered me up and have me a better attitude. He also said that people who say they always have headaches are just feeding this information into their subconscious and it keeps the headaches going! Went back again at night.

After these two days in September, I was onto what the sages were talking about…

“The mind moves matter.” Virgil, 19 B.C.
“All that we are is the result of what we have thought.” Buddha
“As a man thinketh in his heart, so is he.” Proverbs
“Change your thinking, change your life.” Ernest Holmes
